Make sure your pets wear suitable harnesses and choose appropriately sized travel crates.

Cats might try to explore risky areas, so it’s advisable to keep them in a crate during the journey.

Ensure your pet’s crate is kept in a shaded and well-ventilated area during the trip. Pack your pet’s favorite snacks, toys, and comforting items in your luggage. Plan regular stops for restroom breaks on long trips.

Always have a secure leash and harness ready when taking your pet out of the vehicle. Provide water and a bowl accessible to your pet. Never leave your pet alone in a closed car!

Both Qantas and Virgin Australia have specific requirements for flying with pets. We recommend checking their policies and following their travel guidelines before booking your flights. Special considerations are necessary for pets with flat or short noses.

Since most pets will be flying unaccompanied, ensuring they are comfortable in an airline-approved crate is crucial. We recommend providing a spacious airline crate certified by IATA (International Air Transport Association).

Before the flight, it’s a good idea to keep the pet crate open in their main living area, so they can acclimate to it. In addition to familiar bedding, an item with your scent can help calm them.
